So you’ve been using your cloth diapers for a while and they work great, except for the velcro. Just won’t stick any more. Or you’re now on baby #2 and the elastic has seen better days. Well, this is the post for you.
Too often we only focus on getting our cloth diapers clean. Finding the right detergent for our water and figuring out the right wash routine for our washers. We often don’t think about maintaining our diapers except when we’re putting one on our little one and the velcro tab is rolled and it just doesn’t stick so well anymore.
I’ve been using my velcro (aplix) style pocket diapers for 11 months as of yesterday. They are still in great condition, but I noticed while stuffing them today, the velcro has a bit (ok a lot) of lint buildup. It was not pretty. What to do, what to do? Well, out came the seam ripper. In case you don’t have a seam ripper or don’t know what they are, here’s a little pic for you. You can pick them up for a buck or two at a fabric store or dollar store. If you can’t be bothered, tweezers or a Snappi works great too.
A couple of minutes later and voila! The velcro tabs on my bumGenius 3.0 are clean! Yay for no more lint city. I must say, it is amazing how much lint can build up in two little tabs. I was shocked.
Now for those of you who can’t be bothered to pick lint off or the velcro on your diapers just needs to be replaced, we also have bumGenius Refresher Kits. These come with the two tabs, the laundry tabs, and 3 pieces of replacement elastic. Oh ya, and instructions 🙂 . It’s super easy to replace the velcro and elastics and if you’re not a sewer, you can try bribing someone (mother-in-law?) to do it for you.
Now only 18 more to de-lint… any helpers?
