Cloth diapers and newborns, let’s face it, who doesn’t love a little fluffy newborn bum? If you’ve been putting in the research into cloth diapers, you have come across some information on newborns and one size diapers. Many one size diapers out there do say they fit from eight pounds, but in reality, they often don’t start fitting great until a baby is around 10-12 pounds. Plus, if your little one is on the petite side, it could take an extra couple of pounds on top of that before you start getting a great fit.
What to do between birth and the 12 pound mark? Newborn cloth diapers or size small diapers are the way to go. There are a couple of different options available for you. Your first option is to go with a really inexpensive infant prefold and cover system such as the Bummis Infant Diaper Kit. 24 prefolds , 6 covers, a wet bag and a few rolls of Bioliners will cost you less than $200 and will cover your newborn’s tush until they reach about 15 pounds. Prefolds are a great option because you can buy a ton of them and they don’t cost much. Plus, they can be reused over and over and over again. We have some customers who are using a set of infant prefolds for the fourth baby. If you’re expecting multiples or your baby is going to be itty bitty, the Bummis Newborn Pack is a great way to go. The newborn prefolds and Super Brite covers fit from 5-9lbs which gets you almost to the one size diaper size. One thing to keep in mind about prefolds, is that they do need to be changed more frequently as the cotton is not a stay-dry fabric and your little one will feel wet right away.
